Guests flock to the Moosehead Lake area each fall, and for good reason – To say the scenery is beautiful is an understatement.
A typical getaway for many fall foliage enthusiasts is a trip to Maine’s rocky coast to trek along the carriage roads of Acadia National Park. Most will then make their way inland to Maine’s largest lake (Moosehead Lake), and that’s where you’ll find us! Northeast Whitewater is located in the town just before Greenville, ME. Travelers enjoy the woodsy views decorated in oranges, reds, and yellows with evergreens pickling the landscape.
Are there activities to do?
Glad you asked! A highlight for guests visiting Maine during fall foliage season are moose watching tours. This provides a great opportunity to see the enormity of the forest and wilderness of the area. Late September and early October is the best time of year to see large bull moose emerge from the forest to showcase their antlers and bull stature. The fall foliage creates the perfect backdrop for photographers in search of moose, it couldn’t be more exciting!
Another wonderful fall activity to add to your list is hiking. We recommend Gulf Hagas. Gulf Hagas, know as Maine’s grand canyon is a spectacular place to visit during peak foliage. Guided hikes are an option as well if you’re not familiar with the area.
September is also a favorite month for fishermen. Don’t miss out, the season is short! Come to the Moosehead Lake Region to enjoy fly-fishing on the East Outlet of the Kennebec river or head over to the West Branch of the Penobscot river for that big catch.
For a wonderful aerial view of the Moosehead Lake Region enjoy a seaplane ride. The perfect way to take in the autumn colors, while overlooking beautiful and scenic Moosehead Lake.
Where should I go next?
From Moosehead Lake, we recommend driving through Maine’s mountains that lead to New Hampshire. You’ll find that traveling through the mountains of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont tend to captivate the color changing of the fall foliage season perfectly.
Whatever you enjoy doing in the great outdoors, don’t miss out on the opportunity to experience Maine’s spectacular fall foliage colors.
