Day 1: Set up base camp at Northeast Whitewater Lodge, Campground & Guide Service
6 p.m. Arrive in Shirley, Maine at Northeast Whitewater to check-in for your camping or Maine yurt lodging stay. If your tent camping, you can choose to bring your own gear for camping or rent tents/ground pads/sleeping bags here in our camping store. Our gift shop caters to our guests needs, forgotten items, last minute wants and s’more making essentials!
7 p.m. Head up the road to catch your first glimpse of Moosehead Lake, grab a bite to eat, a craft beer and gorgeous sunset before retiring for the night back at our Northeast Whitewater base camp.
9 p.m. Campfire, star gazing, and story telling. Listening to the peepers, getting excited for the next day’s adventure. This is the way to kick off your adventurous Moosehead Lake getaway.
Day 2: Whitewater Rafting class III-V whitewater
7 a.m. Rise and shine it’s rafting day! Grab a cup of coffee in our gift shop. Get your oatmeal sticking’ to your ribs, sizzle up some bacon or pre-order breakfast sandwiches for the bus ride to the river.
8-9 a.m. Check-in for the your whitewater rafting adventure. Daily rafting trips are available, our #1 rafting adventure on the Kennebec river goes out daily or check to see when our more adventurous Penobscot river trips are going out. 4 p.m. Return to Northeast Whitewater base camp for rafting slide show pictures, sharing a favorite beverage and reliving the days adventure. Take advantage of the amenities offered at Northeast Whitewater by enjoying a hot shower, snacks, or a game of volleyball with your friends and family.
6 p.m. Head to the lake! Either Lake Hebron or Moosehead Lake for dinner and drinks with friends and family. Since Northeast Whitewater is situated smack-dab-in-the-middle of this artisan lake community (Monson’s Lake Hebron) and everything you need spot (Greenville’s Moosehead Lake). You can choose from the best local hotspots or high end eats, we’re here to help with our favorites!
8-9 p.m. Settle around the campfire to relive the days awesome whitewater rafting adventure. It won’t be long and you’ll be cozying up in your tent or comfy yurt for a relaxing night sleep.
Day 3: Waterfalls and Maine Audubon Bird Sanctuary (hiking and/or exploring)
8 a.m. First, grab a cup of coffee and pack up camp. Pickup breakfast in Monson before checking out Borestone Mountain, Maine Audubon bird sanctuary, only 20 minutes from Northeast Whitewater and 10 minutes from the town of Monson. A great spot for nature lovers, hikers and naturalists. Borestone Mountain offers amazing views of the area lakes, and ponds of Bodfish valley; 3.5 miles round trip with awesome terrain and expansive views.
11 a.m. Next door to Borestone Mountain Audubon Sanctuary is Wilson stream and Wilson Falls. Here you can take a dip in the eddy pools and relax beside the river to take in the awesome sounds of nature. Or hike the 3 mile round trip into Big Wilson cliffs before making your way back home. In conclusion, you don’t need a week long vacation to getaway to Maine when you live in the Northeast. Northeast Whitewater is 4.5 hours from Boston, Massachusetts; under 3 hours from Portland, Maine and 2 hours from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
